CURRICULUM

Because each year there are multiple countries represented in our student body, Sahel is continuing to develop an international curriculum for Grades K - 12.

The elementary school encompasses Grades K - 6 (approximately ages 5-11) with two grades per classroom.  Its curriculum covers all core subjects plus Bible, French, Physical Education, Art and Music.

The junior high, Grades 7 and 8, (ages 12-13) is considered part of the secondary school.  Curriculum includes basic subjects as well as Bible, Art, Music, Physical Education, and French.

In Grades 9 and 10, students follow curriculum from the University of Cambridge, England, which prepares them to take the International General Certificate of Secondary Education exam (IGCSE). Passing these exams gives students from England, and several other countries, the recognition needed before entering the final years of secondary school in their homelands. This qualification is being recognized increasingly in the United States as well. The emphasis is on study skills, problem solving and critical thinking.

Courses in Grades 11 and 12 will prepare students for future studies.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

An important part of learning at Sahel Academy is being involved in Community Service. All students in Grades 9-12 are required to be involved in their community through some type of volunteer work. Whether they lend their hands to put on a new roof, organize a library, or play with and love children at an orphanage, our students experience the joy of giving with their time and talents.
